Opening arguments in the case against Dexter Bostic, Robert Ellis and Lee Woods are set for Monday in Brooklyn. They are charged with first-degree murder and attempted murder in the shootings on July 9, 2007. The incident sparked an intense manhunt that spanned several states.
Officer Russel Timoshenko was killed. His partner, now-Detective Herman Yan, was shot in the chest. His bullet-resistant vest saved his life.
Each defendant has his own jury because the men have made contradictory claims blaming the shootings on one another.
If convicted, they face life in prison without the possibility of parole.
