10 Lose Homes in New Jersey Fire

Ten New Jersey residents escaped from a raging fire that caused extensive damage to a three-story residential building Saturday morning.

The fire started at about 10:30 a.m.in a house on Avenue E in Bayonne.

"Everybody started screaming and we ran out of the house," said Suzanne Neary, whose residence was destroyed. "It was absolutely horrible. The second floor of the corner house was completely engulfed by the time I got out."

None of the residents was hurt, but one firefighter sustained first-degree burns to an arm and another suffered a minor eye injury, officials said.

The fire spread to an adjacent building before firefighters could contain it.
