Long Island Emergency Management Official Accused of Perjury

A suburban New York deputy commissioner for emergency management has been arrested.

A spokesman for the Nassau County district attorney's office says Edward Korona Jr., of Hicksville, was arrested Thursday.

He is scheduled to be arraigned on four counts of perjury, four counts of offering a false instrument for filing, four counts of making an apparently false sworn statement -- all felonies -- and official misconduct, a misdemeanor.

The name of Korona's attorney was not immediately available.

The spokesman had no further information on the charges.

A spokesman for County Executive Edward Mangano did not immediately respond to a request for comment about Korona's arrest.
