A van carrying 18 people crashed on a southwest Florida highway early Monday, killing eight and injuring another 10, officials said. The Florida Highway Patrol said a preliminary investigation showed the vehicle was heading eastbound on State Road 78 when it ran a stop sign after midnight ET and careened across multiple lanes of traffic, crashing into a steep canal. The driver and seven passengers were confirmed dead at the scene in Moore Haven.
