Shoppers Stopping up Economic Recovery?

The Daily Beast sums up the heart of an important economic problem: that while economists need shoppers to spur recovery, purse strings aint budging.  And herein lies the problem, folks: our self-feeding cycle of consumption must resume its feeding if we're ever going to emerge from this depressing downturn (aren't you sick of hearing the term recessionista?).  With The Wall Street Journal citing drops everywhere from Saks to Target, and retailers dreading a dismal back-to-school shopping season, it doesn't look pretty.

It's an interesting debate, but recession or not, we're not sure a 22-year-old shopper is the best source for economic wisdom-slash-the DB's sole quote.  Just sayin'.
