And they're back! While we fretted about the fate of the retail tenants along 8th Avenue at 13th Street, it seems like the "historical facade restoration" went swimmingly and the plywood has been removed to re-reveal past tenants Steven Alan, Soapology and Sergio Davila, a menswear designer whose aesthetic toes the line between Chuck Bass of Gossip Girl and the polished, grown-up version of Ashton Kutcher.
There is, however, a single storefront still buttoned up with plywood. We're talking about the former location of the Sweet Heart Bakery, a fixture in the area and a favorite of many. Walking by last night, we managed to sneak a peek inside and can say with 96.5% certainty that it will be returning! Why? Because we spotted the old menu board (still with chalk specials) and other trappings of the place. We reserve 3.5% because they could be in the process of tearing out that stuff, but we'll keep our hopes up and our caffeine intake down for now.
