23rd Annual Brooklyn Tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
BAM, Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz, and Medgar Evers College of The City University of New York presents the 23rd Annual Brooklyn Tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. This year the event features keynote speaker Minnijean Brown Trickey, part of the "Little Rock Nine." There will also be an inspirational performance by James Hall Worship and Praise and music by Brian Jackson. Following the event in the Opera House, BAM Rose Cinemas will present a free screening of the documentary Little Rock Central: 50 Years Later.

PS 107's Plug Into Green
P.S. 107 kicks off its 5th Annual "Readings on the 4th Floor" Series. This event features leading writers from the frontlines of "green" to discuss life and community-changing strategies. The speakers include Elizabeth Royte, author of Garbage Land and Bottlemania, Helen Coronato, author of Eco-Friendly Families, and Starre Vartan, author of The Eco-Chick Guide to Life. The discussion will be moderated by Mark Spellun, Editor in Chief of Plenty Magazine.

Martin Luther King Day at Lefferts Historic House
Learn about Lewis Latimer, a pioneer scientist, key to the creation of the modern electrical world, a renaissance man, and the son of fugitive slaves. Vivian Millicent Warfield, Director of Lewis Latimer House, will share Latimer’s story and discuss his restored home and laboratory in Queens.

Brooklyn Based Presents Lost: The Premiere/Season 5 Party
Brooklyn Based understands just how much you love Lost. Attend their premiere party for gift-stuffed “survival kits”, a raffle for the complete past seasons on DVD, $1 rum punches, and a recap of Season 4 from the band, Previously on Lost.
