Streetlevel: Flower Schooling in Dumbo

In October, we found out that a flower shop was to inhabit the space at 73 Front Street (that's the ground floor retail space of 45 Main). Today, the NY Observer reports that Nico De Swert, a famous Belgian flower arranger (yes, there is such a thing as a famous Belgian flower arranger) will do more than sell blooms here: he'll teach others how to arrange them. Down the block, at 81 Front Street, he's opening up a flower school. "Mr. De Swert has signed a 10-year lease for 6,600 square feet," they write. "Though some last-minute details are still being worked out, his shop is expected to open in 2009, ending the Peas & Pickles hothouse monopoly in the neighborhood." GMAP
