The Brooklyn Paper, that naughty minx, has titled their latest update on the Red Hook big box situation "Hookers to get BJ's in a mall," but the operative word is actually "mall." Site developer Joe Sitt, they report, "wants to renovate a historic warehouse on the former Revere sugar refinery; erect several new buildings for shopping, parking and housing; and create a 40-feet-wide public esplanade by 2011 along the water's edge of the Beard Street property next door to the recently opened Ikea." (Ha ha, they said "erect"!) The site, which would be larger than Ikea, would potentially include other big box stores and possibly some condos. Expect the protests to start right about now.
