Anna Sui Hints at Forthcoming Collection

Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week is just around the corner and Anna Sui hasn't fully fleshed out her Fall 2011 line.

“I only just got the fabrics and we’re just starting my clothes.” The iconic designer told Niteside, acknowledging that she’s not one to maintain concrete expectations or plans; “You never know if it’s really going to work until you work through it.”

Sui was on hand at The Metropolitan Museum of Art on Friday evening as part of a panel about her fashion influences.

In preparation for February, Sui mentioned a few items currently on her mood board: “I saw an amazing exhibition in London about Diaghilev and the Ballet Russes. There [are] lots of pictures of Ballet Russes costumes, lots of Léon Bakst drawings. There’s a mixture of mod too. I’m trying to overlap it.”

Added Sui, “I always love to find out what inspired what. I think you can see that throughout my work. Hopefully the [forthcoming] collection captures that.”

What styles can fans anticipate at Lincoln Center? If eras and trends mentioned count for anything, look forward to design sensibilities referencing “Dandyism and Romantic dress. Feathers and velvet.”
