“Inception” Tops Box Office for Week 3

The dream-scape thriller, Inception starring heartthrob Leonardo DiCaprio, took home the No. 1 spot at the box office for the third-straight weekend, raking in $27.5 million.  To date Warner Bros. studio estimates the summer blockbuster has brought in $193.3 million, reported the AP

Defending it's box office domination, Inception beat out three new wide releases, including Dreamworks' comedy remake Dinner for Schmucks starring Steve Carell and Paul Rudd, which opened at $23.2 million in the second spot.

"Inception has seeped into the cultural zeitgeist," explained box-office analyst, Paul Dergarabedian, to the AP. "It's something that everyone is talking about right now. When a movie is able to do that and something just clicks, it becomes a national - even an international - discussion, and it's seemingly impervious to any of the newcomers."

Trailing behind Dinner for Schmucks at the box was Angelina Jolie's CIA action movie, Salt.  Earning $36.5 million in its opening weekend Salt just barely finished in the No. 3 spot during it's second week with $19.2 million.

Zac Efron's new weepy teen flick, Charlie St. Cloud, opened this weekend in the disappointing No. 6 spot at $12.1 million.
