Iris Apfel is Launching a Handbag Collection

Iris Apfel may be 90 years old, but in terms of her fashion career, she's just hitting her stride.

In recent years, the socialite has launched an HSN collection centered around jewelry, a makeup collaboration with MAC Cosmetics, and now, Apfel has announced she's launching her own handbag line.

WWD reports that the collection, which is rather hilariously called "Extinctions," will be priced between $228 and $398, and was created in partnership with Lisa Nunziata, the president of L & Leung Design Group.

The collection, which features bold bags covered in Mongolian lamb fur, is apparently inspired by one such extinct animal: the Dodo. "It's an odd bird, like me," Apfel told WWD.

The bags will be available in October in 12 different styles and multiple colors. What's more, this is no one-off: Apfel apparently is already brainstorming styles for resort and spring.

The iconic fashion fixture has enjoyed a remarkable boost in visibility in her later years as street style bloggers and fashion insiders have "discovered" her distinctive, amazing look -- complete with oversize glasses, statement accessories, and more. She has been an especially vivid subject for cult street style blog Advanced Style, which targets fantastically-dressed women of a certain age (and is now officially a book).
