Last Minute Plan: Tokyo Police Club and More at House of Vans

Just when you thought it was time to turn in a nice, civilized Thursday night, the House of Vans goes and blows that prospect out of the water with a lineup so undeniable it would be almost criminal to skip.

As you know from previous posts, the House of Vans is a giant indoor skate park in the neighborhood of Greenpoint, Brooklyn. The compound also has an outdoor performance space that will get put to proper use tonight.

This evening’s free event features a headlining performance by the Canadian indie pop band Tokyo Police Club whose last area play was at the Bamboozle Festival in New Jersey. Second on the bill is the journeyman punk rock outfit Against Me! who are a personal favorite of mine. Both artists are still riding high on the merits of their respective 2010 releases which should be on full display this evening.

While typically we’d advise you to get to the show early to guarantee entry, there is another reason to arrive for the 7 p.m. doors. New Orleans big booty bounce queen Big Freedia will be whipping the crowd into a frenzy as the sun creeps into the distance.

Big Freedia creates a party like nothing I’ve ever seen before. Go into it with zero expectations and come out a happy camper.

Local punk acts Japanther and Team Robespierre round out this exciting bill. An RSVP will grant you free entry and access to free beer so hop over to the website and embrace the new direction of your Thursday evening.
