With a beehive even higher (and much redder) than Amy Winehouse’s, and a sound that seems stripped out of some sort of gypsy circus where Bjork is the ringmaster, Brit provocateuse Gabby Young brings her eight-piece band, Gabby Young & Other Animals, to Southpaw tonight, March 14. Amid all the petticoats and pink bowler hats and bombastic brass backline (all on display in the video for "Snakebite," below) is Young's husky voice, one of the UK’s most promising new exports. Take note. Go and see her while she's still playing small, neighborhoody venues--not the case in her native land.
