Jessica Cunnington

Emmy® Award-winning journalist Jessica Cunnington is a general assignment reporter for NBC 4 New York, covering stories throughout the Tri-State area. She joined the station in August 2021.

Cunnington has covered a wide range of stories for NBC 4 New York, including the line-of-duty deaths of NYPD Officers Jason Rivera and Wilbert Mora in January 2022. Four months later, she travelled to Upstate New York to cover the investigation into the hate-inspired massacre at a Buffalo TOPS Supermarket. In conjunction with the ten-year anniversary of Superstorm Sandy, Cunnington looked into the scope and effectiveness of several resiliency projects designed to protect Lower Manhattan against future storms.

Prior to joining NBC 4 New York, Cunnington was a reporter and evening news anchor for News 12 The Bronx/Brooklyn. Here, she anchored and co-produced nightly coverage of the COVID-19 pandemic including viewer call-in shows with experts, doctors, and politicians to answer new Yorkers questions. Cunnington also covered the protests and calls for justice following of George Floyd.

In July 2019, Cunnington reported from San Juan, Puerto Rico as island residents staged protests and called for the resignation of then-Governor Ricardo Rossello. She also produced a 30-minute documentary for the one-year anniversary of the murder of Lesandro “Junior” Guzman-Feliz, a 15-year-old boy who was murdered because of mistaken identity, by gang members in the Belmont section of The Bronx.

Cunnington started her broadcasting career at CBS19 in Charlottesville, Virginia. A Westchester County native, she graduated from the S.I Newhouse School of Public Communications at Syracuse University where she studied broadcast journalism. She is an avid runner and a lover of coffee, dancing, and Central Park.
