Suffolk Cop Pulls Girl From Frozen Great South Bay

A Suffolk County police officer rescued an 11-year-old girl who fell through the ice in the Great South Bay in Sayville Monday. Police Officer Matthew DeMatteo crawled on the ice to reach the girl, Sarah, who was about 50 yards offshore. The rescue almost turned to tragedy when the two fell through the ice. Luckily, Chief Chris Gonzales of the Sayville Community Ambulance was able to throw them a rope and help them to safety. Officer DeMatteo and Sarah were taken Stony Brook University Medical Center for treatment. Greg Cergol reports.
