Rape Trial Begins For Two NYPD Officers

The trial is underway for two NYPD officers charged with raping a woman in her East Village apartment. The prosecution told jurors that Officer Franklin Mata stood lookout as fellow officer Kenneth Moreno raped the unconscious woman. The defense says that as a recovering alcoholic, Moreno felt compelled to try to counsel the woman who appeared to have a drinking problem. The officers could get up to 25-years in prison.
