NYC City Council Approves Gender-Neutral Bathrooms

Many restrooms in New York City are going gender-neutral. In an almost unanimous vote, the city council approved that all single occupancy restrooms will no longer have signs that read “men” or “women.” Only two council members voted against the measures. They were Republican Councilmen Steve Matteo and Joe Borelli from Staten Island. Mayor de Blasio is expected to sign the bill. The wording of the new signs has not yet been decided.
