A black high school wrestler was forced by a white referee to cut off his dreadlocks or forfeit a match at a New Jersey high school, sparking outrage and backlash online over the treatment of young people of color. A video originally tweeted by a SNJ Today reporter shows Buena Regional High School junior Andrew Johnson standing dejected in the school’s gym after being forced to choose between getting his hair cut or forfeiting. But he won the match — and now New Jersey high school sports administrators are investigating the incident and the conduct of the ref, idenfied by NJ Advance Media as Alan Maloney. Anchor Natalie Pasquarella also reports on holiday travel, a fire in midtown, a surgery for Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg and an update on a Brinks Truck that spilled hundreds of thousands of dollars.
