Dan Aykroyd’s entrance on "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon," was nothing short of soulful when he strutted into the studio singing James Brown’s “I’ll Go Crazy."
Aykroyd linked arms with longtime blues singer Bobby Rush mid-song and brought him to the stage to to finish the 1963 hit.
The “Saturday Night Live” alum stars in the upcoming James Brown biopic, “Get On Up” as Ben Bart, the director of Brown’s talent agency.
Aykroyd’s “Tonight Show” performance wasn’t the first time he sang “I’ll Go Crazy." He performed the classic at the 26th Kennedy Center Honors in 2003 when Brown had been recognized.
“When James got that very strange rainbow clip, clothespin thing that they give, he was thinking of retiring at the time and so I sang it to dissuade him," said Aykroyd, repeating the lyrics, "If you leave me I’ll go crazy.’”
Aykroyd and Fallon both shared stories of Brown and took turns at imitating his voice. Fallon recalled the story when the late singer told actor Eddie Murphy to bury his money in the woods, “so the government doesn’t get it.”
"Get On Up" stars Chadwick Boseman and Octavia Spencer and follows the life of Brown from living in poverty to becoming an iconic singer.
