Al Qaeda is in a damaged state which the terror group hopes to change with a new charismatic leader, according to NBC News. The U.S. has killed at least six potential successors to Osama bin Laden, all in drone attacks, since bin Laden was killed in a U.S. Navy SEAL raid on his compound in Abbottabad, Pakistan, on May 1, 2011. But the cat-and-mouse game is only one of the problems facing al Qaeda, as the organization has lost its influence and become plagued by infighting amongst its own groups. It also has a budget crisis to handle. "It's nothing like the centrally led organization of 2001 or even 2010," said Michael Leiter, a counterterrorism consultant to NBC News.
