Out-of-Control Car Kills Teen, Injures 12-Year-Old at Yonkers Street Fair

It's not clear how seriously they were injured

A 15-year-old girl died after being hit by an out-of-control vehicle during a church street fair in Yonkers Friday night and a 12-year-old girl who was also hit is in critical condition, police said.

The girls, along with two other teenagers, were hurt when they were struck by a Jeep at Coyne Park at about 9:15 p.m., officials said. The two other teens who were struck were treated for minor injuries, police said.

The driver of the car was leaving a parking lot when he hit three cars in addition to the teens and 12-year-old, according to authorities.

"It was uncontrollable, it was like somebody was in the car actually trying to hit people," said witness Vincent Santini.

"At first I thought it was just a car accident between two cars, but then I saw it was just one car going and hitting everything in its path," said Kelly Lewandowski.

Police say the Roman Catholic Church St. Paul the Apostle was holding an annual fundraiser outdoors.

The driver remained on the scene. It is not clear if charges will be filed.
