A 57-year-old woman has been arrested in the fatal hit-and-run death of a pedestrian on Long Island, Suffolk County police said Sunday.
The woman was arrested on a charge of leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death. Police said she struck another woman crossing Deer Park Avenue at about 8:30 p.m. Saturday, then stopped briefly, but drove off before police arrived. The victim has not been identified.
Witnesses gave a description of the vehicle, and authorities arrested the woman accused of being the driver after spotting her car. It wasn't immediately clear if she had a lawyer.
Police are asking anyone with information to call their tips hot line at 800-220-TIPS.
