It's too warm for a Winter Jam this year, the New York City Parks Department has decided.
The annual event at Prospect Park in Brooklyn was scheduled for Feb. 4, but officials canceled it when forecasts showed it would be "extremely unlikely" to make snow that day.
Parks Commissioner Adrian Benepe said the department was "disappointed" to cancel the event.
"Winter Jam has been an official NYC Parks tradition for the past 10 years, and has afforded thousands of New Yorkers the opportunity to try out sports for free," Benepe said in a statement.
"For New Yorkers who are really missing the snow this season, I hope you'll consider a trip to one of New York State's great ski areas," he said.
Benepe pointed out there were six skating rinks in city parks that were still open for use.
