Officials used a ladder truck to remove a black bear that climbed a tree at a New Jersey Turnpike exit on Friday.

TV footage showed a firefighter and state officials fist-pump as they finished wrestling the tranquilized animal into the basket of the ladder truck.

State Police Sgt. Stephen Jones says the bear was first spotted on the shoulder of the toll road at 8:12 a.m. Friday.

The bear rescue slowed southbound traffic near Interchange 8 in East Windsor.

Fish and Wildlife officials say the male bear was about two years old and weighed nearly 300 pounds. He's set to be released at a wildlife refuge.
