Trayvon Martin's Mother Meets NJ Mom of Teen Shot by Cops

Malik Williams' mother met with Sybrina Fulton at a Harlem event Saturday

Trayvon Martin's mother met briefly with the mother of a New Jersey teenager fatally shot by police officers last December at an event in Harlem Saturday night, The Record reports.

Malik Williams, 19, of Garfield, was shot multiple times by police officers after running out of a police station and found hiding out in a garage armed with tools last December.

The officers involved filed reports saying Williams used blunt objects and a cutting object in a threatening or attacking manner, and the officers fired at him several  times, according to The Record. He died later that evening.

His mother, Shirley Williams, spoke with Sybrina Fulton, the mother of Martin, at a fundraiser to benefit programs targeting at-youth risk in Harlem Saturday night.

"I was crying a river," Williams told The Record.

Williams said many people approached Fulton at the event, but that she was able to talk to her for about 10 or 15 minutes, The Record reported. As they spoke, Williams said Fulton teared up.

"I'm glad she took the time to meet me," Williams said.

Malik Williams' case is expected to be presented to a grand jury.
