This NYC Zip Code Ranks in Top 10 for Most Valuable Land in U.S.

Everyone knows rent in New York City is expensive, but there are some surprisingly high-end neighborhoods where prices are falling quickly.

One particular zip code in New York City ranks among the top 10 for having the most valuable land in the U.S.

A study examining the highest average land value per home in 2016 finds that 8 of the 10 top zips are in California, according to Bloomberg.com

The other two are in Boston (02199) and in New York City (10013). The 10013 zip code runs roughly from the Hudson River to Chinatown and from the Village to the Financial District.

Financial website WalletHub compared 62 of America's biggest cities to determine the most and least expensive to live in.
Long Beach, California, is the fifth most expensive big city to live in, according to WalletHub. It ranks also 56th overall as the best city to live in on the list of 62.
Oakland, California, is the fourth least affordable city in the nation, according to WalletHub. However, it has been ranked the fourth best city for education and health in the same study.
Los Angeles in the third least affordable city in the nation, according to WalletHub. While it may be expensive, it does have one of the top 10 quality of life rankings.
Boston, Massachusetts, is the second least affordable city in the nation. It also has one of the lowest home ownership rates, according to WalletHub.
It comes as no surprise that New York City is the least affordable cities in the nation.
Financial website WalletHub compared 62 of America's biggest cities to determine the most and least expensive to live in.
Wichita, Kansas, may be the fifth most affordable city in the nation, but it received low ranks for safety and quality of life, according to WalletHub.
Colorado Springs, Colorado, is the fourth most affordable city in the nation, according to WalletHub. It also ranks high for education, health and safety.
Virginia Beach, Virginia, which has been named the best big city to live in the nation, is also the third most affordable.
Louisville, Kentucky, is the second most affordable city in the nation, according to WalletHub. But it ranked it low for education and health in the same study.
Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, is the most affordable city in the nation, according to WalletHub.

The economist who conducted the analysis says homes are so much more expensive in some places than others because of zoning restrictions that limit supply, which deliberately keep prices high.

For example, restrictive land use policies in California cities have helped drive up housing prices; in San Jose, the average land value per home was $931,000, according to the study. Meanwhile, in Houston, Texas, where zoning regulations are much looser, it was $133,000.

Here's the list of the top 10 zip codes with the highest average land value per home in 2016:
