Teens Allegedly Killed Youth Over $5 of Pot

17-year-old shot during apparent robbery attempt

Police are charging three Utica teenagers with gunning down another teen while trying to rob him of $5 worth of marijuana.

They say 17-year-old Joshua Thompson was shot once in the chest around 9:30 p.m. Monday. On Tuesday, police arrested three suspects.

Police say 16-year-old Anthony Ruffin and 15-year-old Harold Jones are charged with second-degree murder and attempted first-degree robbery. Nineteen-year-old Timothy Cubbage is charged with criminal possession of a weapon. Police have not said which of the youths shot Thompson.

The three teens pleaded not guilty to the charges and are due back in city court Monday for a felony hearing.

Ruffin's lawyer declined to comment on the case.
