Subway Musicians Donate Half Their Profit for Haiti Recovery

Virginian djembe player Erich Woodrum and Cameroonian balafonist Francois Nnang make their living playing African music in the city’s subway system. For the next week, the musicians are donating half of their profits to the Red Cross to help fund the relief effort in Haiti and are encouraging New Yorkers to donate too. “It’s about expressing our solidarity with our brothers and sisters in Haiti,” Woodrum said. “We’re letting people know that we care and we’re doing something about it so hopefully they’ll be inspired to do something as well.”
