A gun scare sent panicked passengers stampeding through a Brooklyn subway station, with some losing shoes and tearing bags in the chaos, authorities said.
Police responding to the Bedford Avenue station in Brooklyn around 1:20 p.m. Saturday say no gun was found and there was no indication that shots were fired.
Tatiana Smith, a recent Brooklyn College graduate and a small business owner, said she was waiting on the platform when the train arrived and someone screamed, "a gun!"
The people inside the train started pushing their way out of the station, she said.
"A slew of shoes, bags and boxes were thrown out as people attempted to empty their hands and run away from where the alleged gun was believed to be," she told NBC 4 New York in an email.
Another woman said her husband and 3-year-old had to run from one end of the train to the other and everyone was screaming.
The Metropolitan Transportation Authority acknowledged the "frightening situation" in a tweet and says lost items can be picked up at the station or a Penn Station lost and found.
