Stolen Crucifix to Be Returned to Bronx Church in Procession

A crucifix stolen from a Bronx church last week has been found and is being returned in a Monday night procession.

Police said the $5,000 cross was stolen Wednesday from the lobby of Saint Anthony of Padua Roman Catholic Church -- named after the patron saint of lost and stolen articles. The theft occurred between 6 p.m. and 8:30 p.m., probably while mass was being said, according to police.

A receptionist at the church confirmed the crucifix would be returned during the procession, but it was not clear how the crucifix was found.

The procession will begin at 6 p.m. at 166th Street and Prospect Park Avenue and will end at Tinton Avenue in the Bronx.
