New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie is threatening to withhold aid to a Morris County school district that insists on paying its superintendent well above a new salary cap.
Christie said Friday that the Parsippany school board is putting state aid at risk by continuing to pay Superintendent LeRoy Seitz above the limit.
The board approved a five-year contract extension for Seitz on Nov. 9 to boost his pay to more $216,000.
Under a new pay scale that took effect this month, superintendents are to earn $125,000 to $175,000, depending on enrollment.
Christie says the board thwarted the new law by approving Seitz's contract extension.
Meanwhile, the county executive superintendent has ordered the board for a second time to rescind the extension.
