WATCH: NYPD Rescues Woman from East River

Detectives from the Emergency Service Unit swam out to retrieve the woman underneath the Manhattan Bridge

NYPD detectives from the Emergency Service Unit rescue a woman from the East River, underneath the Manhattan Bridge, Wednesday afternoon. The woman was taken to Bellevue Hospital, where she is in stable condition.

Detectives from NYPD's Emergency Service Unit rescued a woman from the East River Wednesday afternoon in a dramatic operation caught on video.

Dets. James Coll and Frank Stevens entered the water underneath the Manhattan Bridge at about 3:30 p.m., swam out about 30 feet from the shore line and secured the 49-year-old woman floating in the river, police said.

The officers brought her aboard a NYPD Harbor Launch boat, and she was taken to Bellevue Hospital for an evaluation. She was listed in stable condition, according to police.
