LIRR Train Inspector Dies After Touching Third Rail

The Long Island Rail Road says a train car inspector has died after apparently touching the electrified third rail in the railroad's Babylon yard.

Officials told Newsday De Russell DeCeck may have received an electric shock from a train car he was working on and fallen onto the third rail at about 6 p.m. Sunday. He died at a nearby hospital.

The railroad is investigating.

MTA spokeswoman Marjorie Anders says the 48-year-old DeCeck had worked for the railroad for 28 years.
