Pedestrian Plaza Opens in Union Square

New York City’s newest pedestrian plaza opened today in Union Square. Officials hope the $500,000 makeover on the north side of the park will help reduce traffic accidents in the area. The Department of Transportation says the stretch along Broadway between 17th and 18th streets is a hot spot for pedestrian accidents..more than 90 incidents in a 4-year period.
