NJ Transit Ending Most Free Shuttles, Ferries

In this NBC 4 New York exclusive, NJ Transit shows how they’re testing their repaired tracks before service resumes along part of the the coast that’s been shut down since Sandy, from Bayhead near Point Pleasant to Woodbridge. Brian Thompson reports.

The free rides are over for most NJ Transit users.

The agency says it will discontinue most of the free shuttle bus and ferry services it initiated after Sandy by 8 p.m. Wednesday.

With service back close to normal on most lines, NJ Transit will discontinue free bus service originating from the following locations:

—PNC Arts Center

—Convent, Madison and Chatham stations

—Summit

—Ramsey/Route 17 station

Free ferry service from Port Imperial Terminal in Weehawken and Liberty State Park also will be discontinued.

The agency will continue to offer free shuttle service along the suspended Gladstone Branch of the Morris & Essex rail lines. The shuttle service will not operate this Thursday or Friday.
