Newark's Murder-Free Month Comes to an End

Gunfire signaled the end to the first murder-free month in New Jersey's largest city in more than 40 years.

Police in Newark say a 26-year-old man was shot in the head Wednesday and died. The name of the victim has not been released.

The slaying was the city's first in 37 days and is the eleventh for the year.  March was the first time the city went through a calendar month without a murder since May 1966.

Police say the suspect in Wednesday's shooting fled the scene in a blue vehicle occupied by two other males.
