2 Men Die of Apparent Carbon Monoxide Poisoning While Sleeping at Auto Shop

Police say two men who slept at the Long Island auto shop where they worked were found dead from apparent carbon monoxide poisoning Thursday evening.

Suffolk Count police say they men were found dead at the Super Auto Detail on Lincoln Avenue in Holbrook.

Suffolk County police say the victims were the shop owner and an employee.

Police say relatives of owner Porfiro Alvarez, 54, became concerned after being unable to contact him since Tuesday night.

Alvarez, who lived in Freeport, was found next to his car. Police say it had apparently been left running.

They say the van's ignition was on, the heat was set on high and it appears it had run out of gas.

The employee, 25-year-old Jose Rufino Gonzalez, of Bellport, was found on a mattress in the back of the van.

Authorities think the pair, who slept at the shop on occasion, were overcome with fumes from the van.
