A mother and son were killed in a house fire in Nutley, New Jersey, officials said Saturday.

The Essex County Prosecutor's Office said 29-year-old Amanda Russo, of Nutley, and her 7-year-old son died in the fire.

The fire broke out at the a house on Park Avenue around 1 p.m.

Neighbors said the boy's grandfather was hurt, but survived. He was taken to a nearby hospital.

The prosecutor's office said the boy's name was being withheld because of his age.

It was immediately clear what caused the fire.
