Body of Missing Assistant DA Found on Long Island

Richard Appleby, 66, worked in the Eastern District

The body of a missing assistant district attorney has been found on Long Island, and police are investigating the death as a homicide.

Richard Appleby, 66, went missing on May 24, when he was last seen at his Upper West Side apartment.

He worked out of the Eastern District in Brooklyn.

His body was found the following day in Little Neck Bay in Saddle Rock, police said, and positively identified on Monday.

Nassau County police are asking anyone with information about the death to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS. The public can also submit tips by logging onto the Crime Stoppers website or by texting tips to 274637 (CRIMES) then enter TIP577. All call are strictly confidential
