Police on Long Island say they’re looking for the vandal or vandals who smashed the glass at a church shrine and damaged statues in the religious display.
Authorities say that the glass protecting a candle shrine outside St. Jude’s Catholic Church in Mastic Beach was broken about 5:30 a.m. on Tuesday. The statues inside were also damaged.
The case is being investigated as a hate crime, Suffolk County authorities say. A $5,000 reward is being offered for tips leading to an arrest.
Anyone with information about the vandalism should call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS.
