Funeral Services Set for L.I. Journalist Killed in Syria

Marie Colvin will be remembered at a wake this weekend and a funeral Mass next Monday.

Marie Colvin of Long Island was one of two Western journalists killed last month in Syria. Colvin’s mother and those who knew her best share their memories of the fearless war correspondent.

A funeral Mass will be held next Monday on Long Island for journalist Marie Colvin, who was killed last month covering the uprising in Syria.

Colvin, a longtime reporter for Britain's Sunday Times, was killed along with French photographer Remi Ochlik in the city of Homs. She was 56.

Her body was removed from the country last week and is en route back to the United States.

Colvin was a graduate of Oyster Bay High School on Long Island. Her mother lives in nearby East Norwich. A message left at the family's home was not immediately returned.

A wake will be held Saturday and Sunday at the Oyster Bay Funeral Home.

The funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Dominic Roman Catholic Church in Oyster Bay.
