Man Punched in Head in Possible Bias Attack at East Village Bar: NYPD

A man was punched in the head in a possible bias attack in the East Village.

The victim, who goes by the name of Barrett, told News 4 he was assaulted by a stranger at B Bar and Grill near East 4th Street at around 11 p.m. Wednesday. Authorities said the stranger punched the 29-year-old in the head, knocking him unconscious.

He refused to contact police and seek medical attention the night of the incident, but went to Lennox Hill Hospital and reported the incident from the hospital, police said.

Barrett believes the attack may have been part of a gang initiation, and that he was targeted because he is gay.
