Police are looking for a man who punched another man in the face so hard that he fell to the ground, smacked his head on the pavement and had to be hospitalized with a serious head injury.

The suspect ran off after the Tuesday evening attack in Hell's Kitchen, near West 55th Street and Ninth Avenue. Police say the victim had been walking a dog prior to the assault; they say the suspect stepped over the dog on a street corner and the victim may have been offended, which started an argument.

Police released surveillance video (above) that shows the suspect talking to the victim, then suddenly punching him in the face and running away.

The victim is listed in critical condition at a hospital.

Anyone with information about the suspect or the assault is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 800-577-TIPS.
