Man Pretends to Help Elderly Woman With Groceries, Steals $2 From Her: NYPD

A man who pretended to be a good Samaritan by helping an elderly woman with her groceries ended up robbing the woman inside her own Manhattan apartment building, police say.

The 40-something-year-old man picked up one the woman’s grocery bags and helped her into the lobby of her apartment building around 4 p.m. Saturday, according to the NYPD. He then followed her onto the elevator.

Once the doors closed, the suspect demanded the 74-year-old woman’s money before ultimately taking $2 from her, police said. He then fled.

The woman was not injured in the robbery, officials said. Anyone with information about the theft is asked to call police.
