Man Found Dead in Westchester School Parking Lot: Police

Authorities are looking into whether the bitter cold caused his death

Authorities are investigating whether the extreme cold played a factor in the death of a 32-year-old man found in a Westchester parking lot Friday morning, police say.

The man, identified as Emery Stewart, was found partially clothed in a parking lot behind the Corpus Christi-Holy Rosary School on South Regent Street at about 7:30 a.m. Friday.

The Journal News reports a maintenance man at the school found Stewarts's body amd immediately called police. The scene wasn't visible from classrooms and children weren't aware of the incident when they arrived, the newspaper reports.

EMS pronounced him dead at the scene.

There were no apparent signs of violence, police said. The medical examiner's office will determine a cause of death.

Single-digit temperatures Friday morning smashed record low temperatures for this date across the city. Winter winds plunged temperatures across the region more than 20 degrees below seasonal averages.
