Woman Struck and Killed by Passing Car after Surviving Rollover

A woman was killed after she was hit by a car as she went to check on her flipped-over car on a Long Island highway. And as a trooper went to check on the struck woman, yet another car hit the trooper’s vehicle, police say.

A woman who survived a rollover early Sunday morning was killed after she was hit by a car as she went back to her overturned vehicle on a Long Island highway. state police said.

Brittany Leith, 25, of North Babylon, climbed out of the wreckage of her car at about 4 a.m. and was being helped by other motorists, investigators said. But she was fatally struck by a passing car when she returned to her vehicle to retrieve her property, they said.

While a trooper secured the accident scene, another vehicle slammed into his car.

The chaotic scene, involving four vehicles, unfolded after the Leith’s car rolled over on the Southern State Parkway at the Straight Path exit in West Babylon. The car that hit Leith also struck her overturned car, which had come to rest in the left lane, police said.

The identity and condition of the driver who hit Leith wasn't disclosed by investigators, as was the identity and condition of the driver who struck the trooper’s car.
