A Long Island man has been sentenced to 25 years in prison for a vicious attack that left an Alzheimer's patient in a coma.
Josue Bonilla was convicted in August on assault charges. He was acquitted of several other charges, including robbery.
Bonilla also was ordered to pay $15,000 in restitution for the victim's medical bills.
Prosecutors say the attack left the victim with shoe marks on his chest and back. They say Bonilla kicked the 68-year-old man in the head and body on a New Cassel street in April 2012.
Police say the victim lived with his family but he had been wandering for at least a day before the assault.
Prosecutors say he will be in a vegetative state for the rest of his life.
