Manhattan Man Accused of Stealing From Church Donation Boxes: Police

A Manhattan man has been accused of stealing from donation boxes at several churches on Long Island, police say.

The man was arrested Thursday after a witness told police they saw the 57-year-old taking cash from a box at St. Pius X Church in Plainview, according to Nassau County police. The witness confronted the suspect, who then ran away.

Police say officers tracked him down a few blocks away. They later connected him to alleged thefts from donation boxes at four other churches throughout the county from Sept. 4 to 8.

The man is charged with five counts of petit larceny and two counts of third-degree criminal mischief.
