Brooklyn Doctor Indicted in Liposuction Death

Dr. Oleg Davie is accused of performing liposuction despite being too risky for a patient who previously had heart surgery. Tracie Strahan reports.

Authorities say a Brooklyn doctor has been indicted on a manslaughter charge after doing liposuction on a patient who'd previously had a heart transplant.

District Attorney Charles J. Hynes says Dr. Oleg Davie also faces criminally negligent homicide and other charges in the death of Isel Pineda.

Hynes says doctors are discouraged from performing liposuction on patients with heart disease. He alleges Davie "recklessly" performed the procedure and falsified forms to conceal his knowledge of Pineda's medical history.

She went into cardiac arrest in his office after the May 2012 procedure and died at Coney Island hospital.

The name of Davie's attorney was not immediately known.
